Understanding the answer

A price usually follows the normal Thai number pattern and ends with บาท (bàat). Listen first for place-value words:

Key place values

สิบ = ten · ร้อย = hundred · พัน = thousand · หมื่น = ten thousand

How to decode a spoken price

Catch the largest place value. Hearing พัน tells you the amount includes thousands; ร้อย signals hundreds.
Listen for สิบ. The digit before สิบ tells you the tens, except twenty uses ยี่สิบ.
Listen for the final digit. A final one after tens is เอ็ด, as in ยี่สิบเอ็ด (21).
Confirm when needed. Repeat the number or show it on a calculator rather than pretending you understood.

Baht, satang, and how prices appear

The baht symbol is ฿ and the Thai word is บาท. One baht equals 100 สตางค์ (satang). Satang still appears in formal pricing and some supermarkets, although everyday cash totals are often rounded to whole baht.

A written price such as ฿49.50 can be read formally as สี่สิบเก้าบาทห้าสิบสตางค์. Digital payments make exact satang amounts possible even when small satang coins are uncommon in daily exchanges.
